Study from John Singer Sargent's ' Fumee d'Amber Gris' - 1880
oil on canvas board, 30x40 cm, 2008
* I've always loved the paintings of artists like Sargent, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, etc. The light and color they achieve with loose, painterly strokes is amazing to me. To see one in real-life can be truly baffling . Being self-taught, I think I'll always have some feeling of being 'in school' - So, I figured I'd try and see what it's like to paint one. The original is much larger , I think maybe 4x5 feet...
I love works of Orientalism! You have done a really good job just like the old masters of art! the love the folds of the garment and the softness of the painting!
